Stained glass box for auction

Hello! It's been a while since I made anything, but this is the latest piece I created. It is a stained glass box with hinged lid. I made it for an auction item, so it's technically a charitable contribution.

This is the first box I ever made, and I think it came out pretty neat looking! Here is a look at the inside of the box, with the lid open:

Stained Glass Box - Open

This box was truly a labor of love as I injured myself (not too badly!) twice - cut my finger once and got my first solder burn in 11 years! Thankfully gloves helped the burn to be minimized. Still think the benefits far outweighed the risks here.

I also had to purchase more blue streaky glass as the glass gods were not in my favor for the first piece.

Bad Broken Glass

Oh, and the pattern for the bottom piece was not to scale. I had to remake the bottom blue piece again, only this time using the assembled box sides as the template.

The featured photo is the box lid with the box closed. I put an antique-style finish to the solder for the entire box as I think it makes the glass really stand out nice. Also, the pattern called for a bevel diamond - I don't like bevels as they are hard to work with / shape with grinder and they don't typically do what you want! So, I used a glue-chip glass to give it that extra touch.

I really like how this box turned out, and perhaps it will be the first of many. Enjoy!
